Frequency Translator

What is a Frequency Translator?
1.) It was pitch-changing device

2.) built originally as a feedback avoidance unit

Was invented by Abbey Road technician Keith Atkins.

Does anyone know about this unit more about it

Hi

I don't believe I've heard of a frequency translator as an audio technique... I think that you'll find it a common term nowadays in RF technology where the frequency is the carrier frequency.

I think in audio it's more commonly refered to as frequency shifting, as raised in your earlier thread.

That's my best guess though you might also apply the description to a phase lock loop or similar device. For example, many years ago (late 70's, early 80's) I dabbled with ideas on electronic medical devices at home. I had a fairly well equiped work bench and designed an LCD read out pulse monitor. The human pulse is down around 1Hz so I used a phase lock loop to multiply the frequency by ten so that the display had a more useful readout when used to measure pulses per minute. That principle involved frequency multiplication (ie times 10) which is still different from frequency shifting (ie 1000Hz to 1005Hz).

Here's a link to a nifty audio project that uses the same principle...
