looking forward to hear any thoughts on how this sounds ....saw it at the sound expo london and obviously couldnt hear a thing....Chris Kimsey had been using the model on show for a week or so and said that it was pretty clean sounding ,and did what it did (not giving much away) Im interested in what it might add (if anything) to the sound accross the mix , compared to something like the mixdream/folcrum etc.... I suppose im curious to see if you can you drive it hard like a tg2 for example...

my first impression was that it looked smaller than I had imagined....maybe it was the big room....
cheers

Hi,

Sorry for not reporting earlier to the forum about the Chandler tg mixer, but here I go. Had two albums that I thought I was finished mixing (before I got the chandler), that I sum it through. Sending the audio through the tg mixer, forced me to remix a little bit.... It was like having new glasses, Suddenly I realized how blurry I used to see. The clearity revealed tiny clics and pops that I had been missing (fades/crossfades). The stereo perspective got much more defined, making it much easier to place the instruments. My mixes also seem to have more punch to them.
I use to sum my mixes through my old raindirk concorde mixer, but it added a little too much noise (hiss) pushing up 16 channels. The pre`s are great on the raindirk though, but as a summing device it can`t stand up to the Chandler. If I hit the outputs a little hard it adds a nice color/glue to the mix. I have a fatso jr. that I used to insert to the mix, but I havent had the need for that now. The tg sort of does a simular job. Will try the fatso inserted though.

The only negative thing I have to say about the tg mixer is that I find it a little small. It`s kind of difficult to adjust the pan pots to exact center(the center is not set). My mixer also had som kind of phase problem with the external input, but I`m trying to sort that out now. Could be that something got loose when shipped.
I have rebuildt my studiosetup around the Chandler tg mixer, going to order the module rack also. I`ll come back with photos as well.

This is kinda disconcerting as I am about to buy a new Raindirk 16 Channel Line Level Mixer. It only has a couple of pres, which is fine because I'll have plenty of outboard pres, so the idea is to use it for mixing, not tracking. However, I had thought it would have a pretty stellar-sounding mix bus, no? How old is the Concorde? Do you think Cyril's summing will have improved since the Concorde was made? I can't back out now as I've got Cyril working on a customisation. I haven't been interested in any of the other high-end rackmount mixers as they don't have enough auxes.

Hi,

I don`t think you should be conserned at all about the new Raindirk 16 ch. line level mixer. Raindirks sounds wonderful!! I may gave you a wrong impression in my post.
My Raindirk is from `79 , I think. I bought it from used from England. It was in very bad shape when I got it. It has originally 28 channels. The shape each channel was variable. I guess beeing such an old mixer some channels need to be recapped. The Concorde also have a lot of chips (ic`s??) which my local electronic rapairman said could be the the source to the noise. The noise btw, was more audible when I just turned the mixer on. After 7-8 hours it had a noisefloor I could live with.... A lot of pots also needed to be exchanged. I was thinking of renovating the raindirk complete, but decided in the end to pick out the best sounding channels to use as pre`s/eq, and buy me a new summing device. And beeing a fanatic Beatlefan, the tg looked perfect for me.

Hi,
Ok, I`m finally finished rebuilding my console. It`s mainly the old raindirk skeleton with new gear put into it. I think it turned out really well. Btw I`m very pleased with the tg mixer, having had it for 3 weeks now. I`m now saving up money to buy the chandler module rack (hope my wife doesn`t read this...... )
