Starts at $50k... but it's obviously a "collectors" thing... not for serious 'using'...

No doubt.

I wondered is it was real or not, as the current Sun Studios is, umm, less than what it was then...

Wow, if this stuff really is the same gear that recorded all those sides, there should be some serious bidding. I mean, wouldn't this be perfect for the Experience museum in Seattle? I think Paul Allen still has some extra cash, despite the current downturn.

Visiting Sun Studios was one of the highlights of a cross-country trip I took a few years ago, but it would have been even cooler if they had period correct gear in the control room and recording room. The whole facility just reeks of history, beyond cool, cannot recommend a visit there highly enough.

Speaking of uber-collectibles,whatever happened to the Beatles' mixing board? I remember there was one on the cover of Mix (first issue?) and it was reported at the time to be owned by somebody in the Bay area. Was this most likely sold to Lenny Kravitz?

Hey guys,
The Sun Records stuff is actually being auctioned by the LA auction house Butterfield and Butterfield. They used to be owned by Ebay so they advertise their sales on the Ebay site. Anyway, if you're in the LA area the preview is this weekend at Butterfields on Sunset Blvd. As far as I know they also have guitars, basses and other recording gear that are Sun and Elvis related so it should be fun to go take a look.
