What's a good DI Box that has 4 or more inputs? Or is there such a thing? I'm looking around for something to use with my MIDI gear that's a bit far from my console... more like 16 inputs....

Anyone using such a thing or is there such a thing?

FWIW, I've had good results with the Behringer DI units. I've used several different ones, mainly for running my synths to my mixer. They might not impart any mojo DI magic, but they get the job done with no hassle. Whatever tonal qualities or color you want to add can be done at the mixer, with outboard gear (comp's, EQ's, etc.) or ITB.

I'm very hesitant to speak out in favor of Behringer here, but I've got to say that not everything they put out is worthless. At this point, their bad reputation outweighs the actual usefullness of their products. At least some of them, anyways.... The main problem I've found is quality control - there's a good chance you'll get a dud. But then you return it and get one that works.

YMMV

I have the 4 channel Behringer unit - and have nothing negative to say about it, nor do I have any slutty di's to compare it to.

Whatever you do, stay away from the "Alto" 4-ch. DI. It's in the same price range as the Behringer DI. I hope the Behringer sounds better, because the Alto versjon sounded like it had a "smiley"-curve EQ....

Radial makes nice DI's, but they're expensive. I'm still searching for a cheap, good 4-ch. DI box.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've fired off an email to DeskDoctor to see about the pricing of the DI- Active....
24 channels is about what I need and hopefully it's priced fairly.......

Yeah, but little labs don't do multi DIs, do they? I'm looking for 6 to 8 very good passive DIs... don't need extra features, just simple, very good sounding passive DIs.

That's why the Radial JD6 seems perfect to me, but I'd like to get some feedback from JD6 users as I can't get a chance to try one here...

Man - we have(had) the rack Behringer multiDI for our band.
When it worked - it sounded.. just bad. Small sounding, phase-inconstancy,cuting on the highs,.. cuting on the lows and almost distorting on peaks.. And padded, it introduces a lot of noise.
One day - it stopeed working. Never bother to repair it.. it's not worthing the effort. (all-SMD design, verry hard to replace things inside..).

Cheap, indeed. My advice - save a bit more and look elsewhere.

Radial make the ProdD8, which is an 8 channel single space rack mount. I have one for my live rig, and I also have a few JDI boxes for the studio, but I would be quite happy to use the ProD8 in the studio even though it doesn't have Jensens like the JDIs.

Have you though about having an 8 channel interface or preamp situated close to your keyboards, so you can dispense with a DI box and run digital or line level instead of mic level?

LOL - the OP asked this in 2005.

Fwiw, the ProCo DB4A is pretty good. I used to play keyboards in a country group. Had a Kurzweil for the grand piano stuff and a Roland Juno-DI for the B3's, Wurli's and Rhodes sounds. The was the unit I used on every gig and it was rock solid every time.
