Does this mic require a good vocal room.

Not really. It's best used up close, so the room's not much of a factor. You'll need a strong preamp as the output is fairly low. Great vocal mic.

I usually like to use the SM7 with the vocalist in the control room with me, thanks to it's close nature, and not needing an amazing tracking room. Recently, I've become completely addicted to this mic, as it's almost too easy to get a great aggressive(but very versatile) vocal sound.

I just tracked male rock vocals with an SM-7B the last two nights (thru V76-1176LN Rev D and alternatively a Langevin DVC). Great close-up mic, sounds great from a whisper to a scream. Definitely needs tons of gain, so be careful what preamp you use. I just about had the Telefunken (and alternatively the DVC) wide open with lots of gain on the limiters. It works great in the CR, just wire one of the monitors out-of-phase while tracking the vocal.

I used the SM7 on this song:

I really doesn't pick up the room like a condensor mic, but it sounds great. It does require a lot of gain.... I think I had the gain turned up to 75 db on my preamp.
