Transient fiddlers: Designer vs. Dominion

I have never had a chance to try out SPL:s transient designer and it's plugin version on powercore. Heard much praising though.
Now there's this free vst plugin "dominion" by digitalfishphones that is basically supposed to do the same stuff.
After some tweaking i couldn't get much out of it. Sounded somewhat artificial and I was a bit concerned about the fact that it was modifying also the leaked transients from other drums.

So have any of you guys tried the real thing and this one. Is this technique really the "compressor killer"? Does only this particular plugin suck or do I just suck in tweaking it.

i tried dominion and voxengo's transmodder demo last night. dominion seems a bit easier to tweek than transmodder, but it's probably because i didn't take enough time to get my head around it. does anyone have any tips they can share for getting the most out of these plugs on snare and acoustic guitar? also, is waves trans-x any better / worse sounding than either of these plugs? thanks in advance for any opinions.
