Question Logic Pro 7 - freeze outboard gear

I was about to buy Cubase SX3 and a MOTU 24 I/O. The plan was to use all my outboard effects as VST plugins then freeze the track and use the effects again on the next track and so on.

However I found a post by Lumen (14th December 2004, 03:08 AM) - "one thing that surprised me and really let me down is now that they have audio track freeze, I figured it could freeze external effects if you chose to freeze in real time (i.e. during playback). This does not seem to be the case. It only freezes VST effects. I was hoping to be able to freeze external effects, but now I'll be back to manually printing them and sliding them. Oh well :)"

Now I am considering Logic Pro 7. Does anybody know if Logic 7 will allow me to use my outboard gear as AU plugins, then freeze the track and use the outboard again on the next track?

Thanks

That's a negative, ghostrider. The pattern is indeed full.

Where would a frozen bus track go? I guess they could design such a thing, but it does not happen on any DAW as far as I know. Aaaah, how I wish I could freeze my H8000.

Tunes.

We're all spoiled. Hopelessly spoiled. I've been realizing it lately. And I'm as bad as anyone, don't get me wrong.

Obviously, it's about 15 or 20 seconds work (or it should be) to route the track in question to the desired out on the MOTU and set up a 'return' channel/track on the DAW. Of course, the freeze process (recording the FX return) will have to be realtime -- but so would the kind of "insert freeze" you were hoping for (as you noted).

Here's an idea -- where it makes sense (verbs, echoes, etc), print the effect separately -- then you can adjust the level (and pan) of your source and FX tracks without setting up your send all over again.

And that's better than a simple freeze (at least as it's usually implemented).
