Exclamation Google's Chrome Update: Google: 'Our bad, we'll change it'

From Chrome's Terms of Service:

'By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.'

According to the lawyer who wrote the article below, clauses like this are not found in for instance Firefox terms of service.

VERY interesting...

I had no idea that clause would be there: it could most def, be used against us re: the music 'industry' (not counting P to P crap). Most def. could harm those distributing materials back and forth that are pre 'release date'.

Best application for it's intended use: porn!

Cheaky F*@kers. The next paragraph reads,

"You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services. "

They're essentially granting themselves the right to broadcast anything over the internet for free via Google Video or YouTube or whatever so long as somebody else has uploaded the material via Google Chrome. I guess they are essentially trying to step away from accepting any of the blame for 'media sharing.'

I can't believe that could be a legal license agreement and I bet someone will challenge it.

They know exactly which browser you used to post that message. View source and check out the bottom of the gearslutz pages...

Amazing! Use their browser, lose your intellectual property rights. Absolutely unreal.

I'm bummed . I was excited to check out this new Chrome browser. But after this post, no way. Not until someone calls them on that and Google modifies that part of the agreement.

That kinda makes me think I should start reading every software agreement, as boring as they are. I can't tell you how many I've just scrolled to the bottom and clicked the "OK, Whatever" button.

breathe out, breathe in...

...read the EULA again.

The SERVICES already had this agreement. This Chrome license reiterates this. It says nothing about content merely being uploaded using Chrome.

Also note that services like Google Docs and Gmail have no such stipulations.

---

Chrome is great, so far. It's in beta, and incomplete, but it loads pages FAST. Faster than FF or IE.

Actually, no. We were doing lab tests on Chrome today on some of our more intensive javascript apps. Its multi-threading, memory encapsulation, and virtual machine architecture for javascript is way, way faster and anything out there. I think you will find this is confirmed by other critical reports.

It's built on the well-tested and revered Webkit, so it is inheriting a lot of the stability and security built into the existing framework. Chrome is not a ground-up build; it's an implementation of a set of core functions, much in the same way Firefox is an implementation of Mozilla.

For my use FF is a pig. I like it but it is way too slow. Chrome loads like a shot, manages pages well and handles the tabs well. There are built-in apps which block ads, etc. So, the best.
