| When Doves Cry... I'll be darned if there's no bass track on that song.... I'm sure I've noticed it before..... Has anyone left the bass track off of a song because that's what it neeed? Just wondering. |

| The same thing with "Kiss" by Prince. I once read a great story about how "Kiss" was actually written and produced for a band that Prince was producing at the time. His then engineer worked on the song one night. The next day the engineer got back to the studio. Prince had loaded the tape and basically said: "Thanks for the great work. Sorry, but this is my song now." Arrangement has got a lot to do with being able to leave out an instrument as critical as bass. As out-there as he can be, Prince is a genius. |

| I also heard (obviously I have no first hand knowledge of this) that the record company refused the mix of "Kiss" because it was a dance song without a bass line. That was one of the first major riffs between Prince and the label. They said that a record without a bass line will never sell, they refused to put it on the album, refused to release it as a single and refused to promote it until he took the song back and put bass in. In the end Prince won the fight and had a HUGE song WITHOUT A BASS LINE!! That just goes to show how little the label mooks really know about music and the public. Let the artist be free to create, the mooks should spend time... mooking.....

| I could be wrong but I believe those are also his 2 biggest hits. Whodathinkit? Two of the if not the two biggest funk hits ever have no bass. No bass funk is almost an oxymoron. Absolutely perfect tunes though. |

| Yup, great stuff. Whatever you think of him, everytime I hear interviews with him, I'm always impressed. He knows what he is talking about.

| I saw Prince (or actually T.A.F.K.A.P. at that time) maybe four or five years ago; one show in Orange County and one at the Hollywood Bowl. Larry Graham and the Station were the opening act. Seeing Prince perform live, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor several times. He's just amazing. The fact that Prince has outlandish personal style and weird mannerisms isn't odd when you consider the Pantheon of Funkateers and R&B artists; James Brown, Bootsy, George Cinton, Sly Stewart, Larry Blackmon, Rick James, Little Richard, Morris Day, Isaac Hayes, etc. |
