Joe meek SC2 compressor....opinions please.

a good pal of mine is strapped for cash and is having a little sale. He's got a Joe Meek SC2 compressor that he'd like to let go for 300 bucks. Just wondering if this would be worthwile to add to the quiver.
anyone had experience with this box?
He's also got the Joe Meek Studio Channel.
the studio is still down so I have no way of demoing it and he needs to sell fast. Any help appreciated.

Find out which version.

1.5,1.7,2.0-to present.

They all sound a little different.

My favorite is the original 1.5(with out the make up gain in the front or back). The original opto from which all the noise came about.

It went kinda downhill from there. Though the SC2.2 and SC3 are faster for drums.

To me the SC2 is an effect box. You either like it or you hate it.

Its only $400 ver.1.07(not .05) but pretty close.

I have a weird discontinued one, SV3??

It has 24 bit digital i/o

I was gonna sell it, but it got a last min reprive.

I grabbed it while my SSL comp was out on hire and anyway the 'vibe' to use it was cool because I was doing a Black Crowsy style act,

Was cool.

On the back there is a little plaque that has the number printed on it.

I have the very first one (which I thought I stole for $700) and while I don't reach for it daily, it's a very cool 'vibey' piece. At $300, you can't go wrong.

Ok, to update....it's actually the SC2.2 compressor. It lists at 799.00. I guess the 2.0 was the more desireable box? I'm gonna pick it up anyhow.

The other two pieces are the Vcq6 n "British channel" at 225.00 each (theres two) Looks to be an all in one channel strip that was aimed at the home studio market.....Anyone used it? ?Worth the $$?

I've owned and used the;
VC3Q
VC6Q
VC6 (on e-bay right now @ $199 starting price)

Be aware that they're planning to revamp the old Meek line by
further improving it.
The three models I've owned are good effects boxes IMHO.
The Meek sound is derived primarily from the compressor BTW.
If my VC6 doesn't sell the first or second time around, it may be
kept for a while. (got my eye on the Toft Audio stuff coming out)

Alan Hyatt has always been cool about giving assessments on the
various permutations of Meek gear, so don't hold the fact that he's the owner against him. He's your best source of Meekology.
