Using DFH Superior...

I'm using DFH(Drum kit from hell) for demo stuff, and its sounding pretty good, but I can't quite get it where I want. I'm looking for a drum sound much like the Temple of The Dog album. Specifically the song "Your saviour". Also "Hey Johnny park", off of a Foo Fighters album is a good example. I have TCR 4000, The liquid channel, and also Waves plugins.

I've done a couple rough mixes, but I don't have alot of experience mixing drums. Wondering if anybody could help me out with some tricks, tips... good books anything that will get me closer!

there are so many ways to process and tweak DFHS....your question is almost impossible to answer.....there are a million ways to skin a cat...

however, If I'm going for more Foo Fighter type of drums, I would play with the release settings in the edit window of DHFS, and then generally squash the crap out of the snare top/bottom after bounce......

I also found that eliminating the hi hat mic sometimes makes it easier to mix....

I apologize, I have read a couple of books on mixing drums, and tried a couple of techniques. But its hasn't quite captured what I was looking for. I've also been hearing allot about playing with overheads, layering, compression and such, but nothing very specific. I guess I was looking for this + this = this. Im trying vary hard to achieve a good drum sound... maybe im asking the wrong questions. Anyway thanks, back to the inquiry.

you don't have to apologize, dude.....it's just that someone could come up with a killer way of processing some DFHS tracks and it might not work for you.....it's almost impossible to tell whether or not it's going to work until you hear it in context with the your tune......

I will say that it's pretty much a matter of eq and compression/limiting........you have to experiment...use light touches though, at first.....the Waves Renn EQ, Waves Renn comp are some of the plugs I use a lot....

if you go to toontrack.com, they have some of the PTools screenshots of the drums mix of a couple of their demo tunes.....all of these are available for download.....basically, it's just another way to do it...
