ReAmping is the practice of taking an existing signal, generally guitar or bass, and sending that signal out through a device that changes the line level signal into an instrument signal. You then take that signal and plug it into a guitar or bass amplifier and mic up the amp. Basically you are taking an existing signal and re-recording it through an amp so that you can find the right sound for the song. It also allows you to play with mic placement without going through the trial and error of playing something, recording it, listening back and then trying again. It's a great idea to record a dry signal in addition to the one you are capturing in case you need to reamp down the road in the mix process. Little Labs, Radial and a few others make re-amping boxes. Hope that helps!

The reamping CAN be done using a virtual gtr.amp, but the real beauty is that you can do it with REAL amps, too. Assign your DI signal to its own output, step it down from line level to instrument level, feed it into a guitar amp and record that amp with a mic, as you would a real live guitarist.

you buy a box made to do this, a reamp box but you must start with a DI (that way you're not double amping, that's no good). you can split from a DI so you have a ckean DI track and also record an amp track (the split signal). Then you can reamp if you like or need to. |
