Stereo micing with 2 different pres??

do any of you do this?

and maybe take it to extremes? say put a large diaphragm condenser on the bridge of an acoustic into a "color" type pre (read Daking) and maybe an m300 (i'm lovin this mic) at the 12th fret into an "audiophile" type pre?

cool contrast panned apart a bit?

or is this just a good way to get a weird stereo image of the instrument?

I'd say that mics and Pres are "colors" for the AE, like colors are for the painter...you can...must mix whatever tools and techniques you have available to achieve the sound you are after, or even discover new ones in the process.
That said, I also think that the same principal that apply for microphones, (matched pair, same brand...), also aply for Pres, when looking for the most "real" or well balanced stereo image available........Joaquin.

Go for it - there's nothing to say you need to have matched mics, let alone pres. Depends on the source. Micing an acoustic with two radically different mics is common practice, so why not pres?

I've done drum overheads with two different mics. And pianos, now that I think about it!

well as far as mics i have done it with very satisfying results (combining large diaphragm w/ small diaphragm for stereo tracking an acoustic).

this is basically to help me make the right choice in that crucial next pre purchase.....
