What if anything is going to be NEW at Musik Messe this year. It starts a week from now and I haven't heard a thing.

Clavia is releasing the keyboard shown under a blanket in this teaser ad:
http://www.clavia.se/

"discover our new model...soon to be uncovered"

Some peeps on the Nord Electro list predict it is a "Clavia Grand" 88 key weighted keyboard controller with updated acoustic piano samples. (There has been some debate about the quality and usuablitiy of the acoustic piano samples in the Nord Electro and many people currently use the electro for vintage keys and organs [totally awesome] and then use a seperate weigthed controller for acoustic piano).

The acoustic piano is just speculation. We'll have to wait and see. Those Fender Rhodes stage piano legs do look cool. Maybe it's a farfisa. That would really be awesome....

[A bit off the subject, but Farfisa=Awesome ]

PreSonus announced that it's shipping the all new Firebox, a compact yet powerful FireWire recording system with the ability to record and playback six inputs and ten outputs simultaneously at professional-grade 24-bit/96k resolution.

Also announced was the new ADL600 high voltage Class A, two-channel tube mic preamp, designed by Anthony DeMaria.

I don’t know how “Firefox” will perform but bought “Firepod” yesterday and put it to work today (for a major live recording session) and was disappointed big time.
These are the main issues I had:
1. sync/clock went off and back on by itself for no reason
2. flimsy I/O, power and firewire connectors
3. gain and level pots make audible noise when turned while in recording or PB mode
4. random digital noises when playing back audio
I will try to return it back tomorrow and don’t even care about the 15% restocking fee for this piece of crap.

about the firepod problems:

other than the noisy knobs (which i think is a defective unit kind of problem that could be solved by an exchange) i think you were experiencing a settings related problem.

should have taken your time with it and figured it out.

that's actually a nice little small unit for little bands.

I never experienced (1).
(2) is the nature of the beast--firewire is flimsy!
(3) I don't use the Firepod for its preamps, only as line inputs. The only knobs I move during recording are mixer faders and/or (external) preamp gain knobs that are meant to be turned during recording.

As to (4), I found that with my 1.25 GHz powerbook, the problem was solved by setting "Work Priority" to "Low". While this seemed to be the opposite of what the instructions recommended, this has worked perfectly. I've now done a 2 hour 7-track recording and two 1 hour 8-track recordings with nary a hitch on record or playback.
