inexpensive gear that made you happy?

thumbsup SUP folks? I wanted to know any inexpensive gear that made you happy or produced good results while recording or mixing.

I know many folks like the Shure sm57, DBX 160(X,XT, A). Any others?

Check the whole Low End Theory forum!

To answer your question, I've been very happy with my JBL/Urei LA-22 thumbsup

dbx242 eq's. Very versatile units, it's the last Orban design and can handle lots of sources well. Can be quite surgical if needed too.

Urei LA-22's are not inexpensive.

They go for around $800-$1200.

Considering that's most of my studio....

cheap EV dynamics....RE15, RE16, RE18......

new coated REMO ambassador heads....

a single NOS Mullard 12ax7 in the first stage of just about any tube amp.

MXR Dual Limiter...

any cheap, rackmount delay unit....

while I'm on the subject, any cheap, analog delay stompbox. Ibanez AD9 is the current fav.

last but not least, there's nothing finer than a 6pack of Shiner Bock.....

Later,

Out of curiosity, how do the verbs in the Alesis Wedge and Alesis Quadraverb 2 compare? Has anyone compared them?

Read somewhere that Bob Clearmountain uses little beige apple speakers (1996/97 I think, pre G3) to check mixes. Searched high and low for them....stumbled opon them one day lying in the back of my local Apple dealer's store room.....he didn't know they were there, boxed, never been switched on......He just gave me them (I'm a good customer!!!!!!!)
U should get these little guys, they're fantastic.........thanks Bob

best small powered speakers by far (apple actually tried to please us, the sound guys)

usually, a few floating around e-bay

i paid $20 for mine, and it cost me $40 to get them shipped to france

definitely my matched omni pair of MC012's. the card's are highly bang-for-the-buck too...

i'm also a regular SC-50 user. great value.

I agree on all points, but do NOT let the little guy jump around in a top bunk bed...! The emergency room trip will blow the maintenance schedule / pricing all to hell.

Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 (original). Mind blowing for what they are.

LOL! djui5 beat me to it...

Behringer composer (actually not the pro version)... Great for sampled beats and levelling... Did I just say that?

Also the Digitech Bad Monkey overdrive (£35.00)... Its analog too... Chuck out your Tube Screamer. this gets more useful TS-style tones and more gain too (dare I say "boutique"?)
