Apogee Rosetta 200 VS Rosetta 800 Dear all, I own a apogee big ben which is currently clocking my 01v96, rme 0652 and other samplers. Now I am using the D/A & A/D at my 01v96. I am seriously considering upgrading the D/A & A/D by buying either a rosetta 200 or rosetta 800. Between these 2: 1) Apogee Rosetta 200 + Big Ben 2) Apogee Rosetta 800 + Big Ben Which setup will give me better sound? I want more channels but I am afraid 200 will sound better then 800 (as 200 is a more recent product ) Thanks!!

As far as I know, it's more a question of features than sound. However, I'll also be interested to read comments from those that own both.

I'm a hare's breadth from buying an 800/96. There's one at the studio where I work sometimes, but I really need one at the house since I've mostly been recording here lately. I haven't heard anything about differences in sound, but I'd be curious to know as well. The number of inputs makes the 800 the obvious choice for the way I work, but I suppose the 200 is a lot simpler to set up as well. I'm also curious about the Lynx Aurora.

| well, the 800 is 600 louder than the 200 isnt it. If your tracking on a 200 and you need that little push over the edge what are you gonna do then? mine go to 800

Mine goes to 11. No one has really talked much about the actual difference in units.... the converters are really close, but not the same. But why does that matter? 8 vs 2. They're just different in how many channels they offer, not so much that one is remarkable and the other is out of date. Both of them can almost indistinguishably reduce some of the mid frequency range, but as far as ad/da goes IMHO it doesn't get much more transparant than a Rosetta. Soft Limit and UV22HR for both...Intelliclock (not C777), blah blah. They're the same thing.

Well, having owned both (currently an 800), I would say that it does ultimately come down to how much i/o you require. Having said that, the CODA features on the 200 are awesome...in fact, I REALLY wish the 800 were equipped with the Aptomizer feature, as it makes getting maximum level to the converters effortless. If you only need two channels, I would say go with the 200 for the advanced metering and extra features. On the other hand, if you ever want to track drums at your house, you are going to need the 800. -Chris
