Best Way for Splitting/monitoring

Dear Gentlemen,

i am looking for advoice from the seasoned gods of audio on the issue of splitting .
the picture is:

i have all my analog comps/eqs and stuff on the patchbay, as well as the i/o of the soundcards etc etc. the usual thing.
until now, i was patching via the bay, using the split moduls to have a monitoring line, which goes to the desk for this purpose.

e.G soundcart out goes to patch>goes to comp> upper tray goes back to soundcard ins, lower tray goes for monitoring.

the path is fully symetrical.

however, i wonder if there is a more better way, more flexible way, and in the end - is this correct. i have never seen a different way of doing it, but - that doesn t falsify any right/wrong doing.

question: how do you do it? what are your opionions ? any advices ? hints ? any funky slutty gear that will boost the quality of splitting at about 1000% ?

all comments and ideas are highly appreciated :-)

thanks for reading !
mark

A "mult" in the patchbay would probably work pretty well.

Dear Flechter,
thanks for answering.

i know what a mult is, but do not understand in this context. could you provide a little bit more detail ?

the problem is (and remains) that i will not use my desk (under no circumstances ) as patchbay or audio path, thus i have had a hard time in figuring out what the most best thing to do in my situation might be.

however, i appreciate your answer very much, and lokk forward form more ideas.
thanks everybody !

Would splitter cables be essentially the same thing as a mult on a patchbay?

What I do is...

mic pres (outboard or mixer) to patch bay, comps, eq's, fx, to patch bay... patch as needed... converters to patch bay...

the inputs to the ad converters are split at the patch bay so signal goes to both the mixer for monitoring and the ad converters for recording.

Hope that helped.

What is your desk that it's so bad that you won't route audio through it?
