| Gear Guru | Dry as a bone, and yet...
Listening to one of my favorite albums, Steely Dan's 'The Royal Scam' and never realized before how dry this thing is. There is hardly any reverb anywhere and just a slight delay here and there. And I am noticing this might be why there is so much clarity in everything. Somehow it just works, what a great sounding album. I am looking at my racks of effects and thinking, hmmm.

Right now I am listening to Seal's second album(the song "Prayer for the Dying, "Dreaming in Metaphors" and "Dont Cry") and i am thinking totally the opposite. I'm thinking that i wish i had songs to work on these days that would challenge you like these(and pretty much the whole album). Lots of tasteful effects, panning and emotional changes. Today's modern productions are so boring. Its the same instrumentation, same length of time, weak lyrics and no creative chances being taken. |
