Dyna BM15P vs Event ASP8 (please help a lady!!)

The Dyna via Macmidi and goes for $1560 with a Hafler P3000+shipping. I have NOT heard the the BM15s although I HAVE worked with the BM6a's and liked them but the bottom is nowhere to be found.

The Events, Active, go for $1199 local at GC so tax is about $100.00
I HAVE heard the Events and I like them but honestly, they sound TOO good and I am nervous about Events build quality. IMHO they sound like fantastic Hi-Fi speakers but I am unsure about how great a monitor they are. I have KEF's in my living room so I don't need another hi-fi speaker.
Geezzzzz.....I sound old at 45 yo. March 12th was my birthday BTW!!! Happy birthday to me!!!!

So anyway.....................

To quote Moll Flanders "So what would YOU do" ? (PBS soft porn special)

I'm thinking of going with the Dyna's and offering their price if they throw in 2 day shipping (about $100).
Good idea?
Bad idea?

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO confused!!!!!!

Hell I'm not THAT confused, I know I hate Genny 1029s and most Tannoys!!!

The down side of the BM 15p is there are few adjustments if you have a problem room. There are people on this group who like the event asp's. I havent heard them, but I did for a brief time have the 20/20bas, which are not good. One speaker can be different from the next, they where very bright and when you turned the tweeter down you got a big hole at 4k. So I'm suspect of their build quality. You have to do lot of listening in your room to see what will work for you

I work at a studio that uses Dynaudio BM15As. When they chose to go with those monitors, they were a/b'd with genelecs, blue sky, a.d.a.m. and everything else high end you can think of. (the studio spend about $6 million on gear). SO, we ended up with something like 15 pairs of Dynaudio BM15As to spread between all of the control rooms. That should give you an idea as to how revered they truly are. I haven't heard the 15Ps though.

That said, I was in a similar dilema myself when buying my own personal monitors and couldn't really afford the $2500 for the BM15As. I tried the Mackies that everybody's raving about and liked them at first, but I definitely think they're too colored. They make things sound good, but almost too good in the sense that they need to be accurate, not sound good. As a friend of mine put it, you could practically draw a line as to where the tweeter stops and the woofer starts... it's not one cohesive sound. The mids seemed a bit scooped. The Events KILLED the Mackies. I also liked the KRK Expose E8Ts and the JBL LSR series. But for the price of those, I'd rather have the BM15As. I listened to the Dyn BM5As and I was sold. The silk dome tweeters really make these speakers stand out from the pack. I thought it would be lacking in the bass response, but in my small room (15' x 10'), I actually ended up rolling the bass off when eq'ing the monitors with the built in attenuation on the back. I got the pair shipped to my door for $859 after tax. Talk to Brad at musiciansadvocate.com. He was the one who got me the killer deal. (they, of course, have the 15s too)

Sorry for being so verbose, but I can definitely relate to your dilema and wanted to throw in my two cents.

forgot to add, brad got them to me in southern california from accross the country in two days, no extra charge. it was a great experience. i know dyn is coming out with an active sub to match the smaller BMs too, should it be desired. i'm in too small of a room to need that right now.

I use both at the studio - they're really different beasts. I currently really like the Event Studio Precision 8s a lot - no ear fatigue after many hours of work - but I think that the Dynaudios might be a little better for bass. Not more bass. But I think mixes through those I make have better translation than the Events.

These Events are totally different than anything they've put out before. They're very well built - I wouldn't worry about that issue. But who knows which would sound better in your room?

That is the critical factor. Be sure to pick some that are well suited for your room, and then just learn them. A HUGE part of it is just learning how your monitors translate into the world on other systems. Reference, reference, and then do a little bit of referencing. Listen to music you know on speakers you know, then see how they translate to your monitors, and vice versa.
