| Gear Head | Joe Baresi Hello, I am about to embark on a dissertation on Joe Baresi and his production style, etc. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good articles, interviews or books with information on any of this. Best Regards Mike

| Just thought if you're doing a dissertation on Joe Barresi you'd want to spell his name correctly? No big deal though. ![]() R.

| Check out the Queens of the Stone Age making of DVD for "Lullabies to Paralyze" and the accompanying article in Sound on Sound. Both the interview and the DVD should be enough for a ten to twelve page report - especially if you familiarize yourself with his preferences for gear etc. Be aware though, he's not the most revealing engineer out of respect to the artist, so anywhere there is a picture of him, you'll also see about 12 to 120 pieces of outboard gear to draw your own conclusions. Also, it helps to know (on the DVD) which musicians are being recorded (it features Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top amongst others, including Jack Black) as you can cross reference their prior work with Barresi. He also did the self-titled QOTSA album from 1998. ...he also produced the Melvins, which were a big influence on Kurt Cobain - so you can always run with that as well.... |

| https://www.platinumsamples.com/JoeBarresi.html Probably some good info included with this package--maybe you or somebody you know uses BFD and would be interested or has it already. Their Andy Johns package included all the signal chains as well as an entertaining video of Andy talking. A good possible source for you? |

| I met him in the car park of the Fox and Hounds in LA. By accident. I was talking with my friends band and he came over to introduce himself - I was chatting away without realising who it was. He gave my mate his business card and walked off. I asked "who was that guy?" - my mate said..."oh some producer called...erm Joe B" .... He didn't know who he was - me, being a huge QOTSA and Kyuss fan , well - my jaw hit the floor. Joe had gone !! |

| Gear Head | Many thanks for all your responses, I will definately be checking out those. If anyone knows any more that would be great. I have to do a written report as well as actually try and replicate to a certain extent some of his techniques in an artefact. Although I cant imagine the university wanting to buy in the gear. All the best Mike
