Using Preamp for line signal recording

Hi!

I'm gonna record linesignals and then re amp it in my studio.
have never done this before.

I have 1 Neveclone called "Vintage Design CA81", 1 Germanium and one Speck 5.0. All of them have tele in.

Do I really get character from it depending on what pre amp I use?

What would you go for, and do I need a DI box as well?

Thanks Andreas
