| Gear interested | Building Mixing Studio, Got Question. Hey folks, As this is my first post here let me start by saying what's up to you all, and say I have really enjoyed reading your posts on this forum for quite some time, I have truly learned alot. ![]() Anyhow, I am and have been a live FOH Engineer for the last 16 years and before that I had worked in a number of different studios, working primarily with tape. I have recently taken a new job with an artist that has found me back in the studio yet again. I am currently building a mixing studio, I have no intrest in commercialy tracking in this studio, we have faclities that work just fine for us. So here finaly is my question: We have been tracking into HD out on the road for the last couple of months and I now have tons of shit to listen to, edit and mix. So I bought an HD Acell 2 rig with a 192 I/O and a Mac Pro. This is where my old school studio chops are failing me, what should I use for monitor control and AD/DA? Am I over looking something in this chain that could really help me out in the mixing process. Funny thing is in the live world I could answer any question about what gear to use where. Studio word I feel retarded when it comes to gear purchases. Help me spend my money correctly. Thanks, |

| Gear interested | Forgot to mention my remaining budget for gear is $3000.00. So for now, control surface is out and I will be mixing totally in the box. (For now!) |

| Gear maniac | if i were in that situation, i would spend my money on a Lavry DA10 for D/A (fed by the AES output of the 192 I/O), Waves SSL Package (since you'll be mixing in the box), and some sort of monitoring box like a Mackie Big Knob (there are obviously more high quality boxes, just depends how much money you want to spend on that). again...that's just where i would start if i were you. good luck! |

| Gear interested | Thanks Lee I was looking at the Lavry and I was also considering the Dangerous Music D-Box, looks like I can kill two birds with one stone there. Except of course for the main downfall of the unit which is no remote. I've got a good share of Plug In's for my new HD rig, I have been mixing my artists live shows on a Digi Venue for a while and accumilated a number of diffrent Plugs. |

| Lives for gear | I'd look into something like an Avocet from Cranesong - I don't have one but the stuff Dave has built was allways very very convincing. The feature set looks mighty fine too. Jo

| +1 for the Avocet. One of my best gear purchases ever.
