Martin D-35

I came across a 1980 Martin D-35 this weekend that really speaks to me. It is an incredible sounding instrument and is in great shape. The guy wants $1700 (US) which seems a bit steep to me. I typically like to buy used gear at such a price that if I had to sell it I would be able to get at least what I paid. Am I mistaken? Is an 80's Martin worth that?

$1700 is not that bad for a 25 year old D-35. It's not a steal at that price but if the instrument really speaks to you then it is worth every penny. I searched for the perfect D-35 for quite some time and after playing many both old & new (as well as many D-28's and D-18's) I finally settled on a limited edition '95 D-18 Golden Era. I payed more than I wanted to but in the end the guitar was worth every penny. It has a certain "mojo" that to my ears, no other acoustic has. I'm inclined to argue that finding a good acoustic which speaks to you personally should be considered a priceless discovery.

cheers,
vandi

I am a Martin dealer and sold a nice D-28 for 1100.00 I agree with checking out new ones first or looking for a better deal. To me each Martin does sound different even if they are the same model. My favorites are the vintage series
D-18 D-28 and D-35 Good Luck!

I own a few Martins and I have played a bunch of them and I
can tell you that they all sound different.
most are good, some are great.
The great ones are worth a little more.
only your ear can tell you.
