Hardware VST Units?

Has anyone tried these Hardware boxes that use plugins like outboard gear in a 2rack unit?

They have been around for a while as far as i know... 2 or 3 years ago i think i first heard about them (i dunno if they were released though).

I think the bottom line is they are expensive. You could get a really nice stereo compressor for that much $$, or an EQ, or an entire channel strip... I'd pick a nice peice of hardware over all the plugins on the planet... atleast then i'd know 10 years from now it will still be sounding good and will still run with my setup.

Computers are getting fast. Real fast, so i think these little boxes are becoming futile. You could pick up a few UAD-1's and Powercores and still be running sweet and for a lot less...

With Intels goal of a 15ghz processor by 2010, it'll make todays computers and dsp boxes like that look like childrens toys...

just my opinion...

You're right. Is really dangerous to invest in digital. Ask that to my old digital mixer; seven years later is already a museum piece.

I've had 2 UAD-1s for two years now, and still in love with them though.
