I'm getting ready to work with my first professional paying client. I'm preparing the intial proposal (quote) and was just wondering if you guys have a system or forms you wouldn't mind sharing that show how professionals tackle this.

In my world, there are not many things as premade forms or agreement forms for these kinds of deals. Most people do it their own way, depending on situation and workflow. Then again, I'm not in a place like L.A., where there might be. I'd suggest that the things to focus on are the aspects of payment agreement - how much for what, how to pay, when to pay, if there are any circumstances like advertisement or massmedial exposure involved or if your customer wishes to make this a speculation deal - and agreement of artistic copyright and ownership of the recording data; basically who owns what and who has the right to vito things. If you don't get things in writing, then get in on tape - bring a witness and/or a dictaphone and make sure it's on all the time. Many aspects of these are already regulated in your local law. Those things you could just leave out, because they are already "agreed" on anyway. But you'd need to know what they are to leave them out. If you haven't already, I suggest you hook up with the best juridical advisor you can get. Also, don't work with customers you get a slightly bad vibe from. If there's no trust already from the beginning, then what happens when things starts stacking up later on in the project? If there's no trust, there's no business. Good luck |

I'm looking for organizational types of things such as intial quote, session planner, track sheets, etc.
