Thread Starter | Quantegy GP9 and 499 Back in Production Soon? According to the recent (8/12/2008) update of Quantegy's website plans are under way to revive production of GP9 and 499. I hope they are successful! Quantegy 499 GP9 FHD Revival |

| I think that would be fantastic. I saw this a while back, and it made me happy. The only thing I dont get though, is why they wouldnt do GP9 and 456. Why would you make 499 over 456? I like 499, and would gladly use it, but 456 is kinda what I think of when I think of "tape". To further that point, Ive been using lots of 499 as of late, because they still have some NOS reels in stock locally. The 456 and GP9 has been dried up for over a year. Shouldnt that point them in the direction of what to produce again. Anyways, we should support them if they return. GP9 still rules for high output IMHO. |

| Yeah.... support them...... but if they come out charging $275+ a reel, forget it. That;s insane, and it's been insane since it began. I swear that someone there wanted to dry up supply, just to kick up the cost almost 100%.

Thread Starter | Acoording to one member of the Ampex list who has talked to the people at Quantegy, the tape will probably be manufactured as an OEM product and branded as Quantegy. I would suspect that Mike Spitz's company woul be making the tape then. Either way, it is a win win situation. |

| I think Quantegy is a bust. I've been calling and email, from what I've heard they are dead.

I wish that I had not had such bad luck with the RMG tape, but I refuse to buy anymore of it....Im sure the ATR is good stuff, though. Just get some of that and make some music, James ![]() | |
