flying with tube gear

i might have a mix job coming up where i would have to fly out to mix in a different state. so my question is... has anybody ever flown with tube gear like a sta level or 176 as a cary on? just wondering if anybody has ever made it on a plane without getting hassled for something like this. because i am busy using the gear up until that time, so i wouldn't have time to ship it.. and not many places rent the 176. so i was thinking 2 of some sort of soft 3 rack space bag. as 2 carry ons. i've done this before with distressors, wireless units etc... but never with tube gear. and if you've ever seen one, the back of a 176 looks pretty gnarly.

Yeh, right. It's the old 'tube compressor bomb' trick. Like we haven't seen that one before...

That beard looks pretty gnarly.

I've flown with Manley gear with no problems. I didn't have a long beard though.

There was a pretty big scare here at DFW created by a copperphone once. Security thought it looked like a pipe bomb.

I went tubing with fly gear once, but didn't catch anything...

yeah, seriously man...you may be able to fly without hassles with either the beard or the tube gear--but probably not with both.

It won't be a problem.
I fly with all kinds of gear.
I traveled with a pair of hard drives in boxes to and from at least ten cities last year.
They were scrutinized maybe a bit more than usual stuff.
My friend's liquid insulin flask gets more attention than any equipment ever did!

I would carry it on and not check it.

I've flown with a Pendulum Quartet in my carry-on baggage, and had no problems. I've found that the airport security guys get more nervous with big mics.
