Calling all Crane Song Avocet users The day has come to finally unplug the big knob and upgrade to the Avocet!! I'm stoked to have picked up a rev.7 used. I don't know a heck of a lot about the Avocet other than that it should be a substantial upgrade for me over "the knob" (btw the big knob was great while it lasted ...... I don't talk trash about previous relationships). Now comes the question ........ how should I plug this bad boy in? I have the apogee ad16x/da16x running logic. I also have the apogees connected optically through a profire lightbridge so I can run PTLE. I have 2 speaker systems and that seems pretty self explanatory. So should I monitor digitally now? I get 2 more DA's now right? Do I have to bnc the apogees to the Avocet? What about terminating the clock? I know to reset it once it gets here by pressing the 3 input buttons. Other than that ... ![]()

I would put the Apogees in Advanced Routing Mode if you have a Symphony System, take the first AES OUT (CH 1-2) from the AD16X and connect to the Avocet DAW Input, this AES output becomes your master stereo output from Logic. Also take ANALOG OUT 1-2 from the DA16X and connect to the Avocet AUX Input. This stereo analog output becomes your cue mix output, create a stereo Aux in Logic and bus all the tracks to it pre fader for a separate cue mix. The Avocet does not have a word clock input, it will take a digital input and play back fine without any clocking nonsense to worry about. There are many ways you could set the system up but this seemed most logical to me.

Oh yeah, I remember reading about advanced routing mode with the apogees when I got em. Yes, I do have the symphony card. Makes sense to me. Thank you. I also like to monitor after my dangerous 2 bus lt and after my c2 bus comp. I guess I'd have to use the analog inputs for those. What I don't understand is ..... will I get another 2 outputs on Logic now? (totaling 18 with the da16x) It would be nice to also monitor post ad when I mix back to logic with dangerous/c2/eq/ ad16x. Is that possible because I'm using all 16 outs from the da16x to the dangerous going back into the daw. ![]()

| Monitor your mix print with one of the Avocet's three digital returns. With the converters in advanced routing they become 32 channel devices (16 analog, 16 digi)

Hey guys thanks a lot. So, I have 16 digital ins and outs that I had almost forgotten about, when I put the apogees in advanced routing mode. What can I use the digital ins/outs for with my current setup besides monitoring into the avocet? Headphone mixes? Ins and outs for outboard reverbs? I need to wrap my brain around this. Right now I'm thinking about monitoring out of logic and monitoring my "print mix" digital. And monitoring analog to hear the output of the dangerous and smart c2. So that would leave 12 digital outs right. What should I use them for? ![]()
