Api 205l di

.

i'm currently looking to extend my tracking arsenal with the sole purpose of recording drum machines & synths. I've a collection of preamps that have done the job of tracking these things wonderfully up till now, however they are more and more getting tied up on live instrument duties and I'd like to have a specific equipment rack for the drum machines/synths.

I'm looking for similar colours to the API 512c (which is generally my go to preamp for drum machines), however I'm thinking not to purchase preamps but more specific equipment for the job....

Which leads me to ask whether the API 205L DI has the same character as the API 512c?
The 200 series looks like a very tempting venture for soley tracking drum machines and synths.... however that being said, API is not always my first choice for synths (MA5/Chandler)

Does anyone have experience with the 205L regarding tracking drum machines/synths... noticed the tone control knob (thin-fat)...not sure when I'd want the thin option...?
