Right position for Cardioid OH mics!

Im wondering how can u tracking Drums (overhead) with cardioid mics one on the left part and one on a right part of drums set (i seen that in a lot of photo) ! In this case didnt your snare pending on one part? With omni mics u must just find the same distance! How can u resolve this problem? Please answer!

Listen to the mics.... switch your speakers into mono and listen for phase cancellation.... above all DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TAKE YOUR TIME, MOVE THE MICS, OR CHANGE THEM OUT WITH OTHER MICS....

Your go to $10,000 mic will suck sometimes...


Placement is never the same.... A good engineer is always tweaking mic placement until it is perfect.

trying to mic things up by LOOKING at where the mics are is CRAZY. You can make some educated guesses with your eyes about audio, but never rule out anything without actually LISTENING.

hey, the mics are not so directional that your snare will be on only one side if you pan left and right. having good phase (related to the distance of the mic from the source of sound) is important, and some people like to do it by measuring but many people will make a rough estimate on position and then listen to the sound, and continue to move the microphones to improve it.
