| bass guitar> guitar pre/power amp> Palmer PDI03 Hi, I know, I know.. but I don't have the funds for bass amp right now but can borrow electric bass guitar and was wondering if the above combination is possible and worth trying. The guitar pre is Mesa Boogie Quad and power amp is also Mesa simul class 295. thanks |

| For recording or gigging? I had those old MESA amps. I have a Palmer.

| Thanks for the reply IntenseJim! It's for the recording home. I already got the palmer and I am broke.. So the amps will cut the lows? Which one do you think, the Quad pre or the 295 power amp? What about the Palmer itself? Also, is it safe to try this combination or are there any incompatibility issues that can lead to the damage of the Mesa combo or something? thanks |

| I'm no tech expert but the main danger that I know of is running a bass into a guitar cab. The guitar speakers aren't designed for the excursion produced by the low end of a bass, esp if you play loud. Low volume is probably OK. If it sounds good, go with it.

I have a bass but no bass amp as well (I have a Crate combo actually, but it sounds terrible). I get very good results running into a 50 watt guitar amp, into a 4X12 with Vintage 30 speakers. The low end isn't huge, but it's tight and clear sounding. It reproduces the entire bass range accurately (it doesn't sound tailored just for guitars). The mids are punchy as hell. It's the bass sound I like anyway. I say go for it. I have no experience with the Palmer though, so I can't comment. | |

| Thanks so much guys, I'll just have to try and see then. BUT I forgot to mention that I don't use cab at all. I record silently and use Weber MASS as a dummy load rather than the resistor based one included in Palmer. It actually uses a special speaker with no sound coming out as a load rather than a resistor. Now the real question would be if the Weber will be up to the task? I really need to be sure about that because if the Weber's silent speaker burns out, it can easily take my Mesas power amp transformer down with it as well. thanks |
