Why am I looking at the Classifieds?

I've got no money to spend!

when I was a kid my dad would say: "If I had it you would get it cause I'd like to see you with it, but there ain't no doubt about it you'll just have to live without it, it's not because I hate you I just can't accommodate you".
pretty much that's where things are

Hope springs eternal that there will be some piece of gear that I actually NEED, at a price that I can truly afford.

I can dream, can I not?

Best.

Within the next month, I have the following to spend money on: wife's birthday, daughter's birthday, wedding anniversary, roof which is leaking in three places, and bathroom remodeling.

I've still hit the classifieds today.

Part of being a gear slut is drooling over the things we can't have, and doing everything in our power to get said gear. Consider the classifieds "motivation".

I believe Wayne said it best..."she will be mine..oh yes...she will be mine!"

My experience has been that it's stimulating to do so, but it's not nourishing. I try and remember that, then bring it to life by not looking at them, which is always more calming.

I guess for the same reason people go to a strip club... You leave both places with an empty feeling.

Me 3 or 4 or 5.

Broke but saving up for that recording light I've been lusting after.
Only to find that the s-gate I wanted for monitor ducking is finally on ebay.

Why did I look there anyway?

Somebody nuke us.

I wonder the same thing every time I get on there...which isn't often, but it's always kind of interesting to look, to see what people are wanting to get some money for.

Are you copying me or something!

I've just had my wifes Birthday and our anniversary in the last month and I currently have 2 buckets by the side of my bed catching the leaks! I've also just recovered from battling with the tiling in my bathroom all weekend.

I guess I can't say 'why is it these things only happen to me?' now.

Oh yeah and I had a quick scan through the classifieds today too

Its truly scary how much I relate. The question is, does gearlust stem from a drive to record better music....or is it just an escape from the difficult process of recording music.....?

My opinion on this varies, but at the end of the day I choose to believe that gearlust must be traceable back to a passion for music. Try explaining that to the wife...

Must be roof season!

I have a FOUR pallets of asphalt composition shingles sitting on my driveway waiting for the roofers to come tomorrow!
Thankfully, the insurance company (ahem...) paid for it.
Still, it was the fight of the century to get it paid for.
That is a LONG story, but all I can say is don't accept their 1st response/assessment and don't EVER play the dumbass and roll over and play dead.

I was lucky to get a roofer to do the work for much less than the payout, so I had some money left over.
It went into insulation and AC in my studio.

The bulk of the real damage to the roof is over my studio and DIRECTLY above the MCI 538C I am restoring!!!!
It once had a home where there was a roof leak once.

I had a monetary cushion and it goes away tomorrow once I pay the roofer.
Still, I was disciplined.
I could bought some stuff.... but I did the right thing.

If you go to gear auctions (like a big studio complex closing) all the big gear pro's are there carefully marking down the prices things sell for. (imagine a large group of vultures playing bingo and you get the picture.)

I suppose it helps them see where things are with the market..

So you are doing very valuable research!

right?
