Ya know, I got nothin' at all against the guy. I'm happy he's got a studio that makes him happy and that he's selling music. But, if you're gonna sit on the floor, drink tea, wear scarves, and have people take pictures of you, you need to be ready for the inevitable feedback.

I think his work is very interesting, and contributes some new ideas to the larger idea of "music"...
The studio looks very unusual and intriguing. Gear looks sublime.
Now, the reaction from most people in this thread is, in my opinion, just strange: a mix of jaded bitterness, envy, maybe even bordering on arrogance. I don't quite understand what brought all the bashing on: is it because the pictures just don't look like all the studios people post here?
Just adding my thoughts, for the sake of balance! ;-)
Much love to All,

Have you ever been out with your friends somewhere, like a dive bar for example, when in walks a dude with a popped collar striped club t-shirt and pointy black leather shoes. Say he also has a loud obnoxious 50 cent ring tone...and earrings..now, you might ask yourself if this dude watches to much TV, or you might crack a joke with your friends about it and laugh..

doesint mean you hate the guy, or your jealous of his 900$ clothes..you just think its a bit unrealistic. I mean, your in a smokey dive bar thats playing "rock you like a hurricane".

thats what your seeing here. Just some people laughing about what ONE MIGHT PERCEIVE AS "Hollywood Bullshit".

not strange... sad, but not surprising... 'cos my guess it that 95% of the members of this forum are "rock" guys (or gals) and the idea of anything a bit unusual or different results in the usual bashing and "prejudices"...

it's sad, really. music, any kind of music, is about being creative. the guy obviously knows his stuff and kudos to him for making a unique space that he likes to create in.

and yes i am a bit jealous of the expensive gear and room treatment. I wouldve done it differently, but the fact that he had the available funds for all of that and i DONT infuriates me. to the core.

that doesint mean its ok to wear a scarf though...

This is very, very true.

Either that, or the "rock" guys are simply more likely to start throwing stones first.

god, I so dislike that word!

So, tell me, because the guy has a sense of style, or esthetic that is different from yours it automatically makes him pretentious? Or is it the great gear in his studio that makes him pretentious? Because if he were, you know, "one of us" he surely wouldn't be using all this fancy equipment, right? Or, for sure he wouldn't want the pictures of his studio to appear in a magazine, because that would be like bragging.
No, it's probably just the wrong color scheme picked for the studio: right, that's it: white really is pretentious: what was he thinking! And the clothes! Good grief, ha ha ha! What a weirdo! Oh, wait, I know: it's the tea! What a snob! Drinking tea like that!

Isn't this all just a little bit childish?

Oh well.

lol just having some fun. But yea the gear is good and the music is good and that is what counts. But no it's not childish, atmosphere is important in studios and we are simply critiquing his atmosphere.

It just seems a little too glamorous and well pretentious. It reminds me of horse dressage queens, world champions at that, sipping tea and eating crumpets in the late morning, their million dollar horses galloping on their million acre property.

IE I would not feel comfortable in this place and my long shaggy hair would probably shed all over the place and he would freak out and throw a tea bag in my face, hopefully not his teabag.

Though the atmosphere wouldn't be right for many, I'm guessing he doesn't have to many clients come in there so it doesn't really matter. If it works for him that is superb!

reading this thread is so funny. lotsa people taking their chance for mental-exhibitionism. vladislav delay the rorschach test for the gearslutz populus - interesting results so far.

seems to me also some europe versus america vibe going here: snobby, tea-sipping intellectual sitting in his self-build asylum, suffocating on his scarf while twiddling knobs on the gear du-jour. isn't that what americans imagine about whimsy obama- (or kerry-) loving europeans with no balls?!

oh well - I like the acoustic output he creates in his setting. and I am still waiting to see anyone of the whiners here to make it on the cover of wire mag. or any cover to speak of...

as for the scarf - average yearly temperature in berlin is 48F or 9C - even in august the average is 64F or 18C - so go figure.

btw - I am american and live in austin.

Jeez, what's wrong with laughing about some picture of some guy! It's harmless! You can apply it to everyone and just have some fun, right?!

I'm European and just came back from a half year of living in San Francisco though, and boy...did me and my Euro friends have a great time joking about the so called hipsters in their uniforms: tight jeans, plaid shirt and/or hoody, white rimmed sunglasses, wiry thin, keys dangling of their belts (because the pants are TOO TIGHT!), half grown beard, obligatory crap race bike and they're all into arts and music, at least they say so.

I think they have a factory somewhere in the SF area that churns these guys out. And that factory is also exporting to Austin I think...

i don't mind criticism & public opinion, but silly reaction like yours. you know nothing about me, and you try to offend me with wanna-be-funny comments anyway "go back to making shoes or whatever it was you were doing before you came here"

90% of stuff in this thread is not real opinions or criticism, but just jealous empty words, based on 4 photographs, and people writing about stuff they know nothing about, trying to be funny (may be that ignorance is funny in usa)...

btw. people in countries, where it is usuall to sit on a floor (not on chairs) had much less probles with hemeroids. for many (for example people practicing hatha-yoga), it is sometimes even more comfortable than sitting on a chair.

still don't understand what is wrong about trying to look interesting on photos for a magazine? should he wear clothes that he wear when he's jogging when he knows that he is going to be photographed in his studio for a prestigious magazine? wtf?

what's so funny about scarf? to my it's not much more absurd than seeing someone wear a necktie (much more useless piece of cloth). i saw bob ludwig wearing necktie hahaha lol i'm sooo funny.. blah

instead of discussing his musick and his gear and his basstrap, you discuss a ****ing scarf
this thread

keep in mind that this was the cover article for the biggest magazine of avant garde music in the world... so, he probably tidied up a bit :) maybe when he's working it's a bit more "vibey"...

color psychology is a contentious area of study dependent more on anecdotal evidence than data from well designed studies.
Black is not a color, of course, but the absence of color. White is not a color, either, and it too has interesting associations. As pointed out, in many cultures it is the color of death, yet in the west, brides wear white to symbolize innocence and purity.

White is the color of purity.

The color of new snow or light from above. What we fail to see is that snow and light has impurities in it but looks as if it is the most pure of all sights.

This personality sees themselves as very special because of this color, sort of above it all. Watching others with interest, they blend in with their surroundings.

Shyness comes with this color but it is not a true shyness. Waiting patiently for others to notice them before they make their thoughts known,
they tend to appear shy but in truth, they are very outspoken.

Virginal attitudes abound with these people. They feel pure no matter what they do. The virtue of purity is attributed to them by others as well, whether they deserve this characteristic or not.

With sober sight, they tend to look others over with a very critical eye. Even while this is happening the person they are appraising does not feel they are being criticized but analyzed instead. If they win the approval of the white personality, these analyzed people act as if they have just won the lottery.

White personalities feel they are right in their belief structures although they are not sure they want to discuss those beliefs with others. The fact that they know they are right is enough for them. It is not uncommon, however, to notice a slight smile cross a white personality's face, when another acknowledges their belief is correct.

Self-importance is a part of their personality but does not interfere with their higher motives unless they are a negative white personality.

==========================

White

Like: White is cleanliness and purity, and those who prefer white are neat and immaculate in their clothing and homes. You are inclined to be a cautious buyer and shrewd trader, but critical and fussy. If you got a spot on your tie or scarf in a restaurant, you would summon a glass of water immediately to clean it off. White also signifies a self-sufficient person and, occasionally, innocence. It is a recall of youth and simplicity.

================================

INTRODUCING WHITE
White projects purity, cleanliness, and neutrality. Doctors don white coats, brides traditionally wear white gowns, and a white picket fence surrounds a safe and happy home.

HOW THE COLOR WHITE AFFECTS US
Aids mental clarity
Encourages us to clear clutter or obstacles
Evokes purification of thoughts or actions
Enables fresh beginnings

WHITE AROUND THE GLOBE
White is the traditional color worn by brides in the western world, as well as Japan.
White is a color of mourning in China and parts of Africa.
In Chinese culture, colors corresponded with the five primary elements, the directions, and the four seasons. White was associated with metal, west, and autumn.
A white flag is universally recognized as a symbol of truce.
The Japanese have six distinct terms to define whiteness.
The ancient Greeks wore white to bed to ensure pleasant dreams.

RELIGIOUS & MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATIONS WITH WHITE
In Christianity, a white lily represents the Madonna.
On Yom Kippur the Grand Rabbi dresses in white to restore an amiicable relationship between God and his people.
In the Bible, white represents the color of light and is an emblem of the divine.

POLITICAL ASSOCIATIONS WITH WHITE
A person who is politically ultraconservative is sometimes referred to as white.

INTERESTING INFORMATION ABOUT WHITE
According to Pantone Inc., white is the best selling color for the classic american t-shirt.
More shades of white are available commercially than any other color.
White clothing typically becomes translucent when wet.
The appearance of white in a dream is thought to represent happiness at home. White castles are a symbol of achievement, destiny perfectly fulfilled, and spiritual perfection.
Originally, scientists wore beige coats. In the late 19th century, medical professionals chose white ones. The color white was chosen because of the idea of hope and expectations for healing and recovery that the physicians would bring.

White : spirituality, goddess, peace, higher self, purity, virginity, reverence, simplicity, cleanliness, humility, precision, innocence, youth, birth, winter, snow, good, sterility, cold, clinical, sterility, clarity, perfection, innocence, virginity, goodness, light, fairness, safety, positivity, faith, coolness, charity, successful innovations, union, self-sacrifice, holiness, feminine divinity, pristine, chastity, positivity

All white rooms can be uncomfortable with a stark atmosphere. White is useful for a background or accent colour as it highlights other colours. White is perceived by the eye as a brilliant colour.
