Hi

From what i know it speeds up the attack rate of the Compressor...

Infact i'd also be interested to hear from anyone that has had this mod done to their 737 ..............

Does it really make the compressor more useable for higher levels of compression...........?

Paul

Funny......Night Sky Sound....I emailed them several times about Kurzweil Products last Summer after speaking to reps at Kurzweil. They never got back to my emails or returned my calls. The mod may be cool...never heard it....but after that...I would never purchase anything fom them.....the ebay add looks like a late night infomercial.......Peace out Napoleon....

So, no one dare post an opinion on if this mod actually makes the Avalon's compressor more useful ? I'm thinking of selling mine, but if the mod actually helps then I'll keep er. I wonder if a used Babyface Mod Avalon will sell more than a normal one?

yes, the babyface mod definitely is worth it. I never use the avalon compressor too hard (if at all), but the faster attack definitely helps the usability of it.

I had their compressor mod. Not baby face light change, just the compressor mod. Makes a world of different. It is now the fastest opto I've ever used. I've always loved the pre and eq and now the comp is useful.

hey rob,
what's the deal w. the broken dmx you sent? I have not heard back from you in 2 wks. thought you were MIA. you need to get back in touch w. me asap. I've called, emailed, PM'd you & nothing, yet you have time to inquire about new gear. this all looks pretty weak. at least if you're not going to deal w. it, have the courtesy to tell me that. this is the kind of lame transaction that really wrecks the whole good faith thing here.

I've got an SM version, which includes that mod. Def makes a difference from my previous unit. Love it.

Does this make a big difference?

I noticed the compressor is a bit laggy sometimes.

How much does this mod cost?

Doesn't help much, the comp is still pretty slow even with the mod.

I had a babyface and i could tell very little between the non babyface on attack......i think its cause the unit is so vanilla sounding.....lol, and just think they went up on the price of Avalon, you might have to pay me to use one again....
The 2022 is the best of the crue but still not good enough, its high point is the open sound that it delivers. tutt not meant for rock and roll at all.

You're both talking about the same mod, right? I understand that these are subjective opinion's but I'm surprised by the discrepancy between "world of differen[ce]/fastest opto I've ever used" and "Doesn't help much/comp is still pretty slow".

I don't know if I'm asking for clarification or a tie-breaking opinion but I'm curious about this mod and don't want to go through the hassle and cost of modding my 737 if it's likely not going to make a big difference.

Thanks for sharing your opinions...

I had a friend who used to build a lot of radio circuits mod mine following the directions on the telus site that's been linked to. He said that it basically scales the attack faster as you turn the knob. So at the slowest setting it's the same but at the fastest setting it doubles the speed. I never used the compressor before I had the mod done, except maybe on bass lightly. Now I use it on bass and vocals. You still can't hit it hard, since it gets murky if pushed, but it's actually usable in the 3-5db reduction range. I find the main trick to making it work, is to use the sidechain to push higher freqs like 10k or so into the compressor. It keeps it from pumping on the low end as much. It's great for rounding off a bit of the brightness from the preamp. I'd still like a different compressor but it's a cheap upgrade that's a must for vocals. YMMV

WOW...I guess my 160XT is also SLOW. I directly compared both and the modded 737 is just as fast.
