| Gear Head | se-1 manual...
just got hold of a second hand Studio electronics SE-1 and having lots of fun with it. one problem, cant seem to access the 2nd bank of preset sounds. All the other controls make sense but i'm baffled here. Can any one help with this. I'm also interested in getting hold of the user manual and a sysex file of the SE-1X Bnks 3&4 sounds.

i'm so curious as to what will happen to these units once the Voyager Rack starts shipping around April. because wasn't the se1's made to emulate the mini? does the se1 have boomier basses than Voyagers now? envelope snappiness aside... |

Thanks v much for that Steve. I owe you one... I had been to the SE site and spotted that the 3&4 banks cost $99 (seems like a lot for a midi file!) but didnt notice that factory presets were free. Duh! Has anyone tried that mod? Looks fascinating, and i wouldnt trust myself to do it, but would definitely be worth it. I just wonder, if it's so simple, why did the genius synth designers at SE not spot the problem. weird. as for voyager rack, it'll cost 3 times what i paid for se1 so i'll just be happy in that knowledge |

I did the Mod. It's DARN easy, even for the unexperienced like myself. And yes, the SE-1 would have gotten much more atention in the beginning when it had the snappiness it now has (if you do the mod that is).

one more request for help. got hold of the factory presets for bank A and B and they're baaad! The previous owner (Mike Oldfield apparently!) had made a right mess of the memory. Only thing is- when i dump the patches from my sequencer, it overwrites both banks with either A or B. There doesnt seem to be a way of getting them into their respectivve homes without just having 2 banks of A or 2 banks of B...... any ideas i should get on to SE about this one i guess Thanks radiance- v tempted by the mod r |

That doesn't sound right - you should definitely contact SE. The manual is very short - if you know how to program a synth, its not really necessary. The most tricky function on the synth is escaping from an edited patch. If you have any questions not in the manual, you can ask Marc St. Regis himself on the yahoo list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/studioelectronics/ Or just give him a call - MSR is a friendly guy and he'll help ya out. SE has good customer service. |
