Power Cords? What do you know?

No one really talks about power cords, probably just because they're using the cord that comes w/ the gear, but anyway, I thought I'd ask what you'd buy if you needed one, or, a few.

I have about four pieces now (bought used)
that don't have the cord, and I'm tired of switching back and forth (seriousley, I put myself through misery to avoid paying a few bucks)

But anyway, I noticed on the thicker cords the main difference is just a higher temperature rating. Maybe 105 degrees vs. 75 on the skinny
cables.

Is there a consensus or anything as to a good brand here. Or temperature or any other kind of rating? Like never go below such and such, blank and blank?

Should I just go to Radio Shack, or should I look for some heavy ass power cords somewhere online?

P.S.
I'm just talking about the standard three prong jobs, female on one end, male on the other that come with every piece of rack gear.

Distressor, Purple MC76. Oscilloscope. Something else I can't remember. I mean I'm just rotating cords as it is so there's stuff w/out cords when I use these pieces. (I havn't actually received the MC76 yet) I don't have a conditioner but I do have some heavy duty UPS/surge suppression boxes.

It's worth the trouble* to build your own because you can customize the length and the 'lay' of the AC cords.

Carol Cable makes good AC cable.

Try a major home center (Lowes, etc) for the cable and the male - i.e. 'Edison' - plugs.

* Good luck finding the female (IEC) plugs. If your local Radio Shack carries them at all, you'll be lucky to find four in a single store.

You didn't mention what gear you're connecting it to...

Most gear doesn't need much power (if you look inside and see cheesy thin wires, it won't help to have a big outer cable!).

But it DOES matter with beefy gear - like Power Amps or your Console. I like the "build it yourself" idea... It can help to have shorter cables than run through a longer length unnecessarily!

You can make your own power cables and power panels, too.

The fine folks at Parts Express have a selection of Edison, IEC and NEMA hospital grade A/C ends in stock, as well as heavy gauge cable.

MARINCO 320IEC15 IEC are great cable mount IEC's and they also make good Edisons and panel mount IEC.

Ah Jeez,

I have so much soldering to do already.
24 trs's and I'm trying to get together parts to recap my board.

Boo.

Like what kind of power cord would you use, say, for your Yamaha PM1000 console?

I have a hard time believing there's not something el cheapo that's premade and 99% Good, whatever that means. Oh boy.
