JBL LSR 28p vs. JBL LSR 6328p

In regards to the JBL LSR 28p and the JBL LSR 6328p: Does anyone know if there is any actual noticable sonic difference between these models and if so what they are? What, if any, changes have occured in the technology? Does anybody use the LSR 6328's and if so how do you like them? I am very interested in these speakers, but maybe I should just purchase the older model since I can get them for less than half the price. I have also been looking into the Dynaudio BM6a's. I write and mix mostly hip hop and electronic music but also occasionally mix rock as well. Right now I mix with NS10s and I am about to sell my HR824s for something more accurate. Anybody with informed opinions on these matters is much appreciated. thumbsup

This doesn't answer your question, exactly, but I think the LSR28's are great for hip hop and rock. Very gratifying low end, very easy to "feel" when the beat is happening. Unlike the Dynaudios or Mackies (IMO). A friend of mine has compared the old and new JBL's and feel they are pretty much the same beast.

I like my LSR's and use them alongside ADAMs S3-As and NS-10s.

Thank you for the reply RKrizman. I called JBL and they said that some of they component's parts "may" have been upgraded. They told me the tweeter is now shielded and that the Room Mode Correction parametric eq has been added. Still I wonder if I can still get pretty much the same results with the LSR 28p

Sorry to wake up this old thread but I'm doing an A/B of these exact models.

Better is a matter of preference in this case....a flavor

The 28p have a little mid scoop and slightly extended highs and lows.
The 6328 has more and wider mids and tighter sound.Less glossy sound than the 28p.The 6328's do not have any hype in the sound so they don't glamorize a mix.
Both have the JBL sound.

Both are very opposite in voicing.I'm going to hang with my 28P's for while and re-think which pair works best for me before I sell one or the other pair. There is no clear winner here. Some will like the mids(ns-10 fans)in the 6328.Others who want a wider less mid forward sound might like the 28p.

The 6328P is mostly the same.
The power supply and driver IC's are the same. It's a class AB design, no DSP or digital amp.
The tweeter is a shielded version of the original 053Ti.
The differential drive woofer has also been improved slightly through the years because of QA concerns. The active EQ is all analog and was changed slightly to compensate for the changes in enclosure shape and tweeter response. It's a straight forward well designed speaker, no gimmicks, doesn't power compress, very robust.
The frequency/soundpower response is very close between the two. The biggest change is the slightly smaller cabinet and the shape of the baffle surface on the cabinet, newly tooled tweeter waveguide (but pretty much same) etc...
The carbon fiber look baffle on the old LSR28P was expensive to manufacture and the tolerances weren't great (hence that foil piece along the parting line between baffle and enclosure). The 6328P is more refined and looks better in my opinion.
