Who Has/Had a Soundtracs 24-8-16?

Hello, I have just purchased a vintage Soundtracs 24-8-16. Can you tell me anything about this board? Is this a live or recording board? Does anyone have a copy of the manual for this? I have a problem figuring out how to use this thing. The Line in doesn't seem to work. Below are two pictures...
Thank you so much!!
Cheers,
Derrick

Loooks like a split console for recording:

On the left are the Line/Mic input Channels, on the top right you have 16 Tape return/Monitor Channels.

The right Faders can usually be switched from being Group Faders to control 8 of the monitor channels.

Signal Flow example:

Mic Input on Channel 1 routed to Group (Bus) 1 controlled by Group Fader 1 to Tape Input 1(9)
Tape Monitor 1 (Tape Out 1) is routed to Stereo Sum to monitor the signal post Tape.

On Mixdown you can usually switch the Input Channels to Tape to use the Input channel's EQs.

Pan, this is exactly what I'm trying to find out! So based on what you said, I take it this board can used with a recorder having maximum of 16 channels? You mention that on Mixdown I can switch the Input Channels to Tape to use the Input channel's EQs. How is this usually done? This style board is new to me. I've only ever used simple live boards before.
Thanks!!!!

Well...you have 24 Channels, but it was intended for use with 16.

err, a SWITCH??? Usually on top of the Channel.
Sorry I can not be more specific cause I don't know the model you own. I can just talk about the basic split-console-design.
Look up Signal-Flow and Routing in a Recording-book.

Cheers, n

So, I am supposed to connect the tape outs to the monitor 1 through 16 inputs on the board, but this means that the controls on the far right section would be the only controls that I can use to mix/hear the tape tracks with. I think someone said this is called the "master section"? SO (see below)...

No, I get that there is a switch to turn the EQ on for a channel strip. I've been told to connect my tape outs from the tape machine to the 16 possable tape/monitor ins which are only controled by the 16 level knobs on the far right... so how do I get the signal of one of these 16 possable "monitor/tape" tracks to jump over to one of the 24 channel strips that has a fader and the EQ? 8 of the 16 channels in the master section don't have this EQ or faders at all. Yes, this is new to me.
Thanks so much!!

Thanks. I've found a guy in New York who is quite helpful with these boards. I'm looking into the possability that the inputs and outputs HAVE TO be tip ring sleeve or else the gin structures and sends to other sections of the board get screwed up.

Does anyone else have an old sound out or Soundtracs board from the early to mid 80s?
