| Lives for gear | How to Position third Mono-Monitor with LCD? I want to setup a Mono monitor for checking my mixes in mono, but I would be putting it right in front of me.. A spot that is currently occupied by my Flatscreen.. How do you all fix this issue? Do you setup the speakers in an array and then have your monitor angled below them or off to the side somewhere?

| Do you really need it directly in front of you? I guess that depends on whether you are going to actually mix through it or just use it as a reference. I used to have a single JBL control one behind me a few feet away, I always found the need to turn away from the desk really helpful, in the same way these days just switching off my screen is helpful. Why not just put your mains into mono? If you want to sit there and mix through it, maybe over the monitor in centre position could work. |

| How about two computer monitors, surrounding the center channel? Symmetry, and everything is at a reasonable height. |

| Why not doing something like that ?

| I mix quite a bit though one speaker mono. The speaker is off to my left side. It doesn't bother me a bit. |

| I'd guess too that it shouldn't matter too much if the mono speaker is off to one side, since you aren't worried about the stereo information, and you could always turn towards it without too much trauma. However, if you definitely want it in the middle, and you want your screen there too, this fellow might help: http://www.ergotron.com/Portals/0/im...45-179-194.jpg I use 2 monitors on Ergo arms (different model, mine are wall mounted as I'm in the corner), so that I can angle them correctly on the desktop, but also so that I can store things behind and out of the way - I keep a Mackie MCU and a Big Knob behind when I'm using a keyboard, or just wanting to use the desk space...I then glide the screens out of the way, grab the stuff I need, and pull it down onto the desk when I need it...You could do the same and keep a mono-monitor behind, and just slide the LCD monitor out of the way... |
