| Time to upgrade! Hey sluterz! I'm considering upgrading my set up and have looked at so many things from a/d converters to mics.. I'll run through my set up and then get on to what's going on inside my head! Scary.. Ok, so this is what I have at the moment and have been using it for a few years now: -Motu 828MkII (plugs into PC) -Behringer ADA8000 (plugs into 828mkII) -Mics: NTK, NT1, Oktava MK012A matched pair, 1 Sennheiser e902, 3 Sennheiser e904, SM58, SM57, other misc dynamics. So some things that have been floating around my head are - Avalon M5, M-Audio ProFire 2626, Focusrite ISA428, JoeMeek OneQ, Motu 828Mk3, Focusrite Octopre.. What I'm thinking is instead of putting all my eggs in 1 basket with the M5, I can sell off my current set up and go a 2626 and ISA428. Which will hopefully give me enough quality preamps to do tracking from vocals to drums. Then maybe look at getting a decent mono pre down the track, maybe an M5 (or are there other alternatives?). So what does the general GS populus think? Cheers guys 12 |

| If the 828 is working well (mine is) there is no real reason to replace it unless you need more IO than it has. Changing the ADA8000 to a Digimax FS is a good, cheap change. At least one great pre is a very good thing and overall mics are mics, it is the user that makes the difference and a lot depends on the style of music you generally record. |
