Need help to set up Crane Song HEDD as a mastering device.

Hi!

Since I'm new here, I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Big Mama from Sweden, a close friend of Dim Light's .

I have a question regarding the Crane Song HEDD and I guess this is the right forum for it. I bought it about 6 months ago and it works flawlessly when I am using it as an AD-converter in the recording chain. Anyway, I have promised a friend of mine who is in a band, to do a very simple HEDD-mastering of a recording they recently made - just to add some analogue warmth to the tracks. The thing is that I'm getting a digital feedback loop (is there such a thing?) when I switch to the digital (to digital) mode. The Crane Song HEDD is hooked up directly to the s/pdif in- and outputs on my RME Digiface soundcard. The devices are synced via Word-clock, using the Crane Song as master. What am I doing wrong? How should things be set up to work?

Would be really grateful if anyone could help me out. Will go to sleep now and check the board first thing tomorrow morning.

Cheers,

Big Mama

That's right, you're getting a digital loop........check the monitoring settings in your DAW....if the track that is armed to record via sp/dif is also sending the signal out to sp/dif, you'll have a loop....so my guess is turning off record monitoring will fix it......it could also be related to the settings in the totalmix ap' of the digiface.

Thanks alot for your help Darius! w It wasn't just the monitor settings that was the problem, though it was the thing that caused the feedback. As you said, I had to change a couple of things in the total mix, and remove a BNC-cable(!). Thousand thanks again. Very appreciated.
