Anyone building their own doors?

I need to build some French doors (or should I call them Freedom doors?) for my piano room. My idea is to take 2 panes of sliding glass door replacement windows (cheap and avalible) and build frames around them. Any thoughts?

An important factor in double glazed windows is to make sure the two panes are of different construction. For example, the first pane could be standard 10mm monolythic glass, the second 7.5mm laminated glass. The reason for this is glass has a resonate frequency referred to as the "coincidence dip". At this frequency, usually smack bang in the mid range, the glass will pass sound quite freely. By using two different types, the resonate point will be different for each, thereby reducing the effect of the coincidence dips.

And of course, the thicker the glass, the better sound isolation you will get assuming the jambs seal well.

To seal your frames against the jambs, take a look at the Raven products. Good luck.

Tim.
