| "so then I put in the vocal and it RUINED my mix" - got a favorite instrumental song? Sometimes engineers will say adding vocals messes with the "nice mix..." they have going... So I was wondering, what your favorite instrumental songs are... The Ramsey Lewis Trio's cover of "The In Crowd" is probably mine... Lalo Schifrin's - Return of the Marquis de Sade album is a close second - it has a hapsichord & sax track that I want playing as I lose my mind.... It IS surely the soundtrack of madness ocuring! Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Tijuana Taxi & taste of Honey would be my joint third places. Modern Jazz Quartet - "Somewhere over the rainbow" on vibes = also cool Jimmy Hedrix's "Star Spangled Banner" can't be forgotten either! Now the singer is gone, lets HAVE SOME FUN!!!! ![]()

| Yeah, love "The In Crowd". Saw them perform it live ages ago and still have the LP. Also love "Sleep Walk" by Santo and Johnny. All the great surf instrumentals. "Wipeout," "Apache", "Pipeline", "Churchkey", "Tequila". All those cool tunes still do it for me. Growing up in California in the 60's the first live bands I saw were surf bands...all instrumental, no vocals. Probably because nobody could afford a PA system. Oh yeah, gotta put the theme to "The Third Man" in there too. Who would have thought zither music could be so cool. |

Can't quite tell if that's a zither or a hammered dulcimer playing the lead line. Great tune for an otherwise cheezy show. | |

| Theme from the movie "Get Carter" is pretty damn good as well... John Barrie - who did the James bond Music scores & The Theme from the Persuaders & The Third Man - just got a BAFTA life time fellowship award (British Grammy) for his work...yesterday evening.... I actually went out and BOUGHT that Theme from the Persuaders as a 7inch single, I think it was my 2nd record...) I was about 12 years old..

| If you're looking for speed and gimmicks (which I do occasionally) you can try Auld Lang Syne by Bill Keith. For those not 'in the know', the whole song is played without using the frets at all, the chords are changed (and the melody is played) by retuning the strings, and the effect is comical. He uses 'Keith Tuners' to accomplish this. Another one I like is called 'Fuji Mountain Breakdown' - Mozart's Turkish March played on bluegrass instruments. |
