Subkick on bass cabs

Woah, I just tried using the Yamaha Subkick on a 2x15" bass cab and it sounded great. I didn't really expect much more then sub-bass rumble, but it sounded like a decent mic with some attack and everthing. I mixed it with a DI input and I'm really impressed.

Has anyone done this?

Brandon

Probably wouldn't be as hot on one of those ampeg 8x10's. They only go down to 60 hz and the subkick probably only goes a few octaves above that.

I've used it in a super loud setting with guitar amps blazing in the same room. great rejection.

Actually if I remember correctly this is where the "idea" of the subkick started. I think Geoff Emrick first stared using a speaker as a transducer on Paul's bass parts in the mid Beatle years. He said it rounded out the lows and helped get sounds they were never able to achieve before.

Anyway the sub kick on bass with another mic and a DI is great because you can split up the bass into a few different frequencies and use different compressors to EQ with. Cool way to mix if you have ever tried it.

I've screwed a 15" speaker directly to another.
Has anyone used the subkik as a bassdrum hitting it directly with a beater?

I don't think that would be the best idea of you wanted to keep the thing in tact.
