Perhaps it's an honest mistake from the seller. If you contact them and ask
for the authorization code, they should provide it to you. They probably got an
ignition pack .. and if so, then there are lot of other codes than just for
PT (like the IK Media, Melodyne, etc.).
If they don't or won't, you can purchase a 7.4 full install from the digi store
(
Digidesign - The Industry Leader in Digital Audio and Live Sound .... go to store). It will set you back $75.00. 7.4 is
worth the upgrade (IMHO).
As far as books go . there are a lot of them. I would suggest the Protools 101
courseware is probably the best to start with. 101 has been around for
years and Digi decided to make it available without having to go to a
Digi authorized instructional facility. It's $49.95 comes with a book and a
DVD. There's an online practice exam and if you decide to take other
courses in the future, you can get 101 out of the way cheap.
I think Guitar Center sells them at the store .. but you can get it from the Digi store
too.
