17" LCD Monitor recommendations

I currently have two NEC LCD1700v monitors, I need something similar. What's a current market equivalent (or better?)

Watch Dell.com, I found a 17" lcd for $254 shipped to my door recently on like a one day one shot sale. They do quickie sales a lot at Dell. The monitor looks fine.

It's really hard to go wrong with NEC, especially if you plan on running your 17" monitors at higher resolutions. I have two 1760NX monitors and they have been excellent. One came with a partially burnt pixel, but it's in near a low corner and not worth worrying about. I bought one of these at work to test before buying some for home. Aside from the excellent picture quality, the biggest plus is the extra thin bezel (about 1/2"-5/8" all around). I believe the 1760NX was recently replaced by the newer 1770.

We buy a ton of Dell LCDs at work (from 17" up to 21") and they vary greatly in quality. If you do decide to go with a Dell, make sure you pony up for the UltraSharp series. I believe Dell's OEM vendor for the lower-end monitors is BenQ while Samsung provides the better models. Some of the less-expensive Dell monitors don't converge terribly well and some don't offer enough adjustments (quite unlike the NECs which have more than enough adjustment options for any environment).

Good luck!

We have a pair of Spectre Komodo 19" monitors at the studio. Work great, no ghosting. I think they can be had for $350 each.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 710v - it looks great (VGA, no DVI).

What I like about it is that it has some brightness presets. I'd use a brighter preset during the daytime, and then a darker setting during the night.
