what can i use S/PDIF for

Ok i know what S/PDIF is but i dont really know what to do with it. For instance, in my project studio i have some outboard preamps the have a S/PDIF and my soundcard/interface also has S/PDIF. I was just curious what the benifits would be of using that connection, and what else people use S/PDIF for in the studios. Thanks in advance.

For me Spdif is useful simply because it carries a stereo signal, it means one less pair of analog inputs I have to use on my digi002, and it keeps my signal digital which I feel sounds way better than doing the Analog to digital to analog back to digital conversion.

Hi

You may want to consider using the S/PDIF for external effects unit.

Have fun.

Spdif can also be used to get digital clock to a device that has no word clock i/o. Like a Digi001.

I'm using s/pdif out from a Mini-Me into an 002 Rack. This provides two more mic inputs and better converters on those tracks.
