Yeah, and even with the low dollar, here in Europe they're almost double ...

I understand they're not cheap to transport, but hey ?

They are pretty easy and real cheap to make.
IF you are handy.

I believe Nathan has the instructions posted on the web somewhere or I would not even point this out.

Good luck.

I built my own, nothing to it, just time consuming. Cost about $25 a panel. You get to select your favorite fabric too.

From what I understand there is a lot more to a RealTrap than some 703 and fabric!

Chris,
That is correct. And Ethan (sorry Ethan for the first post) had it posted. Glad I printed the plans because I cannot find a good link now. I believe he has improved this design slightly so, the built ones may have an advantage. This advantage is probably lost on the amature installation that still follows. Who knows.

BUT! It is that easy.

DIY is kewl!!!

Can you repost those plans here, or is it now proprietary information?

Ok, I lied.
This stuff is still posted on the web.
But, in the spirit of DIY...shouldn't you have to find the answer?
I mean how much effort does a few searches take?
I can assure you, less than building these traps.

Good Luck!

I don't think Ethan's ever had info up that showed how to build his "real trap" product. Apparently he uses a 703-like material which he has specially manufactured for him + the exterior fabric has its own special acoustic properties.

You can build your own, but they probably won't absorb as low as the real traps if built to the same dimensions.

The John L Sayers forum is a great resource.

I've built a dozen or so traps that have worked great for my studio. I used 2 inch thick, 703 FRK faced, owens-corning fiber glass insulation. I wrapped 2 of them in amber colored burlap and framed them. They look nice and cost around $40 each. You'll most likely want to use different depth traps and experiment with placement. There's a staggering depth to architectural acoustic design that's worth investigating if you're serious about making improvements to the sonics of your studio.

My 2 cents.
