preamp integration in your setup

next week i will get my first "real" preamp a flamingo. in addition to tracking i would like to use it to beef up some signals from my daw. my current chain is:

mic->pre->patchbay

for flexibility i would like to connect all i/Os to the patchbay so the tracking would be:

mic->patchbay->preamp->patchbay

are there some serious disadvantages (cable lenght?)

how are you integrate preamps you would like to use on tracking AND downmix.

THX!

are you saying you'd use the same patchbay for mic level signals and line level signals?

or two different patchbays?

Thats what I need! Is it even possible to use a line 1/4 inch patch bay with a xlr cable and adapter?

Im always having to go to the back of the rack just to get the falv im looking for, or I get lazy and use the same one every time, it would be nice to experiment.

currently i use a amek 9098 eq/pre. is has 2 inputs, one mic and one line. advantage is that i can connect it to the patchbay for mixdown and for tracking the mic goes directly to the mic input.

the flamingo does not have these 2 inputs. you suggest to get a xlr patchbay. i understand that to avoid problems with phantom power on my trs patchbay.

is this the oly solution: to have an extra xlr patchbay for micpre-inputs?
