Thread Starter | Close Micing Cymbals or Overhead Pair for Fast Music
Hey dudes, What do you guys think about the idea of close micing each cymbal on a drum kit for faster music, and have additional room mics to act as kit mics, or would it be better just to do an overhead pair? I went to reserve mics at our audio cage here at school and one of the guys who runs it scoffed at me for doing it, which in turn made me question what I was doing. I'm stuck. Thanks! |

Close micing cymbals is common practice for style of music that benefit from increased separation, like metal for example. Andy Sneap is a great example of a professional (a Grammy winner at that) who prefers individual/close mic'd cymbals at mixdown. There's no reason to scoff at it. |
